We are a group of Milford residents working to provide a skatepark for the community to come together to promote wellness, inclusion, diversity; and to shred.
Skateparks and the activities associated with them offer compelling mental and physical health benefits. A recent study conducted by The Skatepark Project and USC underscores the positive impact, revealing that 76% of individuals engage in skateboarding for the sheer enjoyment it brings, while 62% find solace in it as a means to escape stress. These findings highlight the multifaceted advantages of skateboarding, emphasizing its role not just as a recreational pursuit but as a valuable outlet for both mental well-being and stress relief.
We believe the current number of enthusiastic skateboarders in our town exceeds 800, and yet, there is a glaring lack of safe spaces for them to pursue their passion. This estimation doesn't even include the diverse community of other skatepark enthusiasts, such as BMX and scooter riders, roller/quad skaters, inline skaters, wheelchair riders, and more. Recognizing the need for a dedicated and secure environment, we are committed to providing a sanctioned space where these young and old individuals can not only engage in their athletic pursuits but also foster social connections and develop skills crucial for their lifelong journey. While our team is steadfast in this mission, we cannot achieve it alone—your support is essential in turning this vision into reality.
We meet at Milford Town Hall on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 in Room 14. All are welcome!
